Real Madrid shirts

The all white shirt is the most copied template in football. Real Madrid have worn white since 1902, borrowed from Corinthian FC, and the modern kits change through detail rather than colour: the trim, the collar, the weight of the gold.

The kit

Real Madrid's shirt is defined by what it leaves out. No stripes, no hoops, no second colour beyond the trim. That restraint is why small changes matter so much to collectors, and why particular seasons become shorthand among fans.

The late 1990s and early 2000s brought the Galáctico era, when the shirt carried some of the most recognisable squad numbers in the sport. The purple and black away kits of that period are now among the most requested retro shirts we handle. More recently the club has leaned into gold trim on home shirts and used away and third kits for the experiments that the home shirt can't accommodate.

Sponsors

Real Madrid's shirt front has carried an airline sponsor since 2013, preceded by an online gaming brand and, before that, a long period with no sponsor at all. Shirts from the unsponsored era are unusually clean and remain popular with people who want a kit that reads as clothing rather than advertising.

Manufacturers

The club has been with the same German manufacturer since 1998, following earlier spells with Spanish and Italian makers. That continuity means retro Real Madrid shirts from the 80s and 90s look noticeably different in cut and badge construction from anything made since.

Buying a Real Madrid shirt

Home shirts run true to size in the fan version. If you're buying a player version, take one size up, as the match cut is trimmer through the chest and shorter in the body.

White shirts show wear faster than dark ones. Wash inside out at 30°C and keep the iron away from the crest and sponsor.
